Life With Jackie
Published in Hardcover by Bantam Doubleday Dell Pub (Trd) (February, 1983)
Authors: Irving and Block, Jean Libman Mansfield and Jean Libman Block
Average review score:

Jackie Superstar - Irving Groupie?
This book is not brilliantly written and tends to ignore the trashy, brassy side of Jacqueline that we all love, but hey it's written by a devoted husband. If you are reading this after devouring "Lovely Me" by Barbara Seaman you may even wonder if it's about the same Jacqueline Susann! All in all it's a sweet book that is written by a man that obviously, truly adored his wife.

A fantasy look back
Kurt is right about the book Irving wrote. When I first read the book,I thought it was a nice piece of work, but Irving didn't share what he knew about the real Jackie. But the reason I believe why he wrote the book was because Barbara Seaman was researching "Lovely Me, The Life Of Jacqueline Susann, and he knew the truth about her, and was scared the truth would eventually come out. It did. A good friend of mine was Beatrice Cole, Jackie's closest friend. And she confided to me, the book Barbara wrote probably killed Irving. But the truth is the truth no matter how you look at it. And believe me, I'm not knocking this incredible indominable woman, but it took Barbara to bring out the depth of the woman, and most important, the truth.

Machiavelli's Virtue
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (April, 1996)
Author: Harvey C. Mansfield
Average review score:

A Difficult, Yet Rewarding, Analysis of Machiavelli's Works
Mansfield has written the perfect reference book for upcoming term papers on Machiavelli. His analysis of Machiavelli's writings is insightful and innovative. However, the book is written is a very formal style that makes it difficult to appreciate the interpretation that Mansfield puts forth. This is definitely not a book that one takes to the beach for some casual reading. That is a shame, because Mansfield's conclusions have practical implications for the modern politician or executive. Unfortunately, the dense style makes this book attractive only to academics

Masterpiece
Nowhere easy to read, occasionally repetitive, but a masterpiece nonetheless. The second best book ever written about Machiavelli. Mansfield makes a claim so bold as to seem reckless. But the more time one spends checking it out, the truer it appears.

Some ideas and themes that Mansfield elucidates seem to have never been discovered by other scholars, much less elucidated. And no one does a better job of explaining the details of Machiavelli's politics and the actual institutions he recommends.

Mansfield Park (Modern Library Classics)
Published in Paperback by Modern Library (09 October, 2001)
Authors: Jane Austen and Carol Shields
Average review score:

Better than I expected
Mansfield Park got better as I read on...

The characterizations are typical of Jane Austen: alive, distinct and vivid. Sir Thomas Bertram as Fanny Price's father is vindicated especially when compared to Mr. Price (Mansfield vs. Portsmouth is a part of this distinction). Mrs. Norris's treatment of Fanny is deplorable; her move to the morally banckrupt permanently cements her personality. Fanny herself is not my ideal heroine. Her timidity and repression could use a good dose of Elizabeth Bennet's wit and Emma Woodhouse's confidence. Then again, she would not be Fanny anymore. ..

It's Austen but....
Recently I've been on an Austen kick to read everything of hers that I can get my hands on. After eagerly devouring "Emma," "Sense and Sensibility", "Persuasion" and many of her other novels, I started "Mansfield Park" with equal eagerness. I enjoyed every part of the book up to the very end. The characters were well drawn, each a distinct and unique personality that I've come to expect in Jane Austen's works. **Some spoilers following** Henry Crawford seemed to really be in love with Fanny and I believe that Fanny was softening much towards him. Given a little more time, perhaps, I think Crawford could have easily won her over. I know that it was the culture and not at all squeamish to marry a relative as close as a cousin. That didn't prevent my distaste for the ending. Edmund and Fanny grew up as brother and sister... Their marriage is bordering on the incestual and therefore I found that I could not enjoy this Jane Austen novel like I have so many others.

Thorough, complete, and to the point
As a publication that has been operating for the past 9 years on Word Perfect 5.1 for DOS, we decided it was time to upgrade to a new system and a new program. This was not as easy as it sounds, but thanks to this book we were able to duplicate the style and layout of our publication almost perfectly. We don't know where we would be without this book's information on customizing Word 2000 for our needs and setting up styles, templates, macros, and even our web page. This is the best guide we've seen to Word 2000.

Mastering Word 97
Published in Paperback by Sybex (January, 1997)
Author: Ron Mansfield
Average review score:

Masfield gives a step by step approach to word.
Mansfield gives the user the opportunity to follow steps easily. The book is easy to understand and follow. The author also provides instruction in the book that generally isn't found in Word manuals, like how to create a table of contents and how to create an index. This is a good reference Word book to keep around for when you cannot remember how to do something or for when you need to teach yourself a new skill.

Lots of Topics, Little Detail
This book is extremely well written and covers just about every aspect of Word 97. It is a very large book, and the only gripe I have is that it doesn't really go in depth on anything. It covers the basics for everything from bolding text to Visual Basic for Applications, but has no real in-depth details.

I give it four stars because it does do a good job at covering so many different subjects with Word. But if you want more information on something in particular, go with a book specializing in certain subjects. This is primarily for beginners wanting to get to know Word and how to get around, not people who want to "Master" it.

Reference Guide to C and C++

Authors: James L. Antonakos, Kenneth Mansfield, and Kenneth C. Mansfield Jr
Average review score:

A Good Slim Reference for Beginners!
Covers the basic, yet probably most used, C/C++ constructs. Makes for a good little handy reference only. I would recommend as a supplement text to beginner programmers working with C/C++. The authors do a good job of explaining C/C++ constructs in an easy to understand language. Lots of simple diagrams and example code. Highly recommend to Newbies like me! :)

Reference Guide to C and C++ - A Student's Opinion
Great book! It gave really clear explanations (including examples) of all the concepts I needed to read up on.

Snow Is Falling
Published in Library Binding by Ty Crowell Co (October, 1986)
Authors: Franklyn Mansfield Branley and Holly Keller
Average review score:

What Good Is Snow?
Rather than attempting to explain how snow is made, this book discusses the good and bad things about snow. For instance, snow protects plants and animals from harsh winds and can keep things warm. However, snow can also bury food for animals and cause floods in the spring. This book is fairly easy for pre-schoolers to understand though there are a few difficult words they have trouble understanding at first (thermometer and temperature). The illustrations that accompany the text are colorful, yet not overpowering. A great science book to use for preschoolers when talking about winter.

General Introduction to Snow
Rather than go into the science of how snow is formed, this book discusses the effects of snow... Snow protects plants and hibernating animals from wind and cold and, in the spring, melted snow waters the new plants. The book also discussed the dangerous conditions snow can cause. The colorful illustrations and subject of the text make it a good book for a pre-kindergarten curriculum.
